Palmdale High School Class of 1959

Note: The following letter was sent to classmates in July 1989, one month prior to the 30th anniversary of our graduation from Palmdale High School. It's here to complete the historical record. After the reunion

SEE YOU AUGUST 12

As this is written there are just four weeks before we gather at the Antelope Valley Inn Convention Center to celebrate 30 years of being on the outside with the Palmdale High School Classes of '59 and '60.

We've gotten a lot of good responses. We have money from 63 of the Class of '59 who are bringing along another 44 folks. The Class of '60 has 31 members ready to arrive bringing another 19 with them. As of July 11, that makes 157 tickets sold and we haven't talked about teachers who have accepted our invitation to attend. We expect maybe a dozen teachers.

Let's review for a moment: It's $35 a head which includes dinner, those prizes and a mini-yearbook with faces, names and addresses. The party will start at 6 p.m. with a no-host cocktail hour followed by dinner at 7:30. (Some folks have suggested the party may begin a little earlier around the AVI pool, but you didn't hear that from me.) The AVI is on Sierra Highway just south of Avenue J in Lancaster. No dinner tickets will be sold at the door (we've got to report the number of dinners to the chef earlier than that!)

A lot of folks (including some who live within 10 miles of the place) are taking advantage of the special rate ($40 single, $45 double) offered to us by the AVI. Call (805) 948-4651 and mention the PHS reunion to get the rate.

Other fairly close motels are the Easy 8 Motel, 43530 17th St. West (at Avenue K just west of the AV Freeway) at $27 single and $30 double. Call (805) 945-9477. The Inn of Lancaster is just down the street from the AVI. They offer rooms at $44 and $46. Call (805) 945-8771.

Dress will be informal to impressive, but generally not heavy duty. Bring your dancing shoes. We've got a DJ who has all those really good old songs.

SEE YOU AUGUST 13

On Sunday, Aug. 13, we'll have a picnic over at Deanna Nesti Hunter's so we can all visit with Wayne Anderson. Wayne won't be able to make it Saturday night because of a prior commitment, so he asked for a second shot at seeing some familiar faces. It sounded like a good idea, so...

Deanna has a large back yard, a pool, a big barbeque and all that. What we have to bring is something to eat and drink potluck style. The barbecue will be fired up if you want to grill your vittles. What "potluck" means is feed yourself and bring something along to feed several other folks and the hardware to eat it with. None of that "Those with last names starting with A through M bring a salad" routines, we'll just trust to luck that we'll have a nice well-balanced lunch. The Colonel and a host of other fast fooderies have invaded the territory and several nearby markets have good deli sections.

Bring along a swim suit and a towel and take the plunge. Kids are welcome assuming they don't eat the bark off the trees or perform natural but unsanitary acts in the pool.

Deanna's address is 2645 East Ave. R-1, Palmdale. Given the lateness expected for the previous evening, 10 a.m. probably isn't too early to knock on her door. Don't worry if you don't remember Deanna's face; You'll be made as welcome as if she knew who you were, too.

And, what the heck, you'll certainly recognize Wayne.

JUST LIKE SENIOR PICTURES

A photographer will be on hand for the reunion and he'll offer package deals just like school pictures. If you're interested, pack along your checkbook or a check made out to Jim Allen. The prices include sales tax, so don't try multiplying by 6 1/2%. The photos will be sent with your mini-yearbook (which Jim is also doing) within two months of the reunion.
